There are a number of things that should be addressed and changed in order to lose weight. No great new information for you there. You’ve probably been on diets before and struggled to maintain a restrictive diet. And what happens? When someone, even you, tells you that you can’t eat a certain food, that food becomes even more desirable. You start to crave that particular food, not because you want it, but because you can’t have it. These restrictive programs also have another downside. When you restrict your food intake to too few calories your body, through a survival mechanism, thinks there is a famine and starts to slow down your metabolism to conserve your energy stores. Just the opposite of what you want to happen if you are trying to lose weight. So restrictive diets don’t work. It’s just that simple. And if you’ve ever been on a diet you probably found this to be true. You gained all the weight back as soon as you stopped eating in that restrictive manner.  Things can be different when you use weight loss through hypnosis.

So, how can weight loss through hypnosis improve this process?

When you are hypnotized, one of the things that an experienced and well-trained hypnotist will be able to do is to change your response to food and eating. We all are born with the proper behavior toward food that we want to have. That behavior is to eat when hungry and stop when full. Have you ever noticed how an infant eats? An infant eats until it is full, and then stops. It spits out the nipple and will refuse to eat, because it doesn’t need the food anymore. It has supplied itself with the necessary nutrients it requires to take care of its needs for the next couple of hours.

And by doing just this simple process you start to see food and eating differently. You are no longer controlled by food. You are satisfied with a small amount of food. You regain control over the simple task of supplying nutrients to your body, and that feels good.

The reason why most fat people are fat is because they have a bad relationship with food. The associations that they’ve made with food do not serve them properly. Since you probably already know that your relationship with food is wrong you will be glad to know that a hypnotist strives to create new relationships for you with food and eating behaviors. When food is viewed as a source of fuel, rather than a source of comfort, you start to reclaim your control and become more at peace.

A recent case study reveals that a client came into the hypnotist’s office beaming because of the changes she noticed after her previous session. She stated that in her whole life she had never felt this good. And she felt this good everywhere she went. This lady is morbidly obese, but quickly changing her attitude and relationship with food. She reported that she exercised easily, and did so without complaining or feeling she “had to” do it. When presented with food choices she made healthier ones, more easily. If she felt like eating something she knew wasn’t so healthy for her, she found just a bite would be sufficient.

The process she experienced while doing hypnosis for weight loss is common when the advanced hypnotic techniques are employed properly. A morbidly obese person is eating to satisfy an emotion, not eating to satisfy physical need to replenish food supplies. In order to change behaviors at this point, it takes more than just using your imagination to mentally rehearse new behaviors, although that’s still an important part of the process.

What becomes the focus of the early part of the program is learning how to respond to the emotions that the person is feeling. Those emotions are trying to communicate something that this fat person needs to know. It may be stuck in the past still trying to get the attention of the person, but whether that feeling is based in reality or just made up, it still needs to be taken care of. Or it will continue to cause problems in your life.

There are a few ways that dealing with feelings is accomplished when seeing a hypnotist. There are also ways of working through your emotions on your own. One way of doing that for yourself is to start with a journal. Keep it with you at all times. Write down your feelings. Spend about 20 minutes ever day for the next week or so writing down your innermost feelings and thoughts. Starting to identify your feelings is the first step to moving them out of your unconscious decision making process.

This process is approached differently by the hypnotist using hypnosis for weight loss. It can be done in conjunction with your journaling as well. When you start to become part of the solution doing your journaling work along with the person you’ve chosen to help you it becomes a more satisfying experience for you. You can comfortably say that you truly own your goal weight.

My previous article highlighted a way of using weight loss hypnosis in New York for a very quick refresher.  This is for those who are experienced using self hypnosis and previously having success with it and what they want at this moment is just a recap or refresher.  It is not for the majority of people looking into hypnosis for weight loss New York.  So this article will review some of the other approaches for weight loss using hypnosis.

For those people who want to change habits and want some help to do this and want to be able to make changes quicker than they normally would they can consider weight loss using hypnosis.  The hypnotist will ask you questions about what behaviors you currently are doing that is causing you problems.  If you don’t know what they are, the experienced hypnotist will ask you about certain behaviors that you are currently doing.  Are you eating many meals during the day?  Are you eating in specific places, at specific times?  Are you involved with doing other things while you are eating – multi-tasking?  What foods are you eating?  Are you “craving” certain foods at certain times?  These and other questions get the dialogue flowing so that the hypnotist can hone in on the specific behaviors that should be changed so that you can start to build new habitual behaviors that will be healthier for you.  Once this takes place you will naturally release the excess weight that you are carrying around.

So  this approach to weight loss with hypnosis is to uncover the behaviors that are causing you trouble, and then work to eliminate them and replace them with new healthy behaviors that become habits.

How To Make Habits Quickly

Once the faulty habits are identified it’s now time to target them for change.  Habits are made by doing a behavior repeatedly.  By performing a behavior that is the opposite of the behavior that you are currently doing you will have to suspend that old behavior in order to do the new one.  Take for example the habit of sleeping past 9 AM.  When you start to develop the habit of waking up and staying up at 7 AM you will automatically counteract the old habit and the old habit will be removed.  Well that’s not really true.  The old habit doesn’t just disappear, it is just stored away and you are able to revitalize that old habit as you want.  So what prevents that from happening?

How To Make New Habits Permanent

So you’ve been working on these new habits, and the old habits seem to be more desirable.  They are more attractive and it seems a struggle to maintain the newer behaviors .  What do you do?  What you need to do is to build in a strategy that motivates you to stay on track.  One of those strategies is to set up a mental thought process of all the negative consequences of doing the old behaviors.  So that every time you think about “the good old days” of that old behavior, you immediately think of all the negative problems along with all those negative feelings that are associated with that old behavior.  This is what is called an “away from” strategy, because it keeps you moving away from something negative.  It is a good way of using feelings and creating associations that are meant to keep you on the correct path of success.  But there is something weak about this strategy and there is a much more powerful stragtegy that you can create and use for success.  I’ll get into that with my next article.

NYC Hypnosis

NYC Hypnosis heard this news awhile back.  It was shocking to know that right here in our city there would be so many people subject to these type of massive layoffs.  I swiftly offered my services to all who needed them to help them stay mentally prepared.

You can always look at these type of occurrences as tragic, and you can also see them as opportunities.  So many people these days really hate their jobs.  They stay with it only because it pays the bills.  And I don’t want to downplay the importance of having a steady paycheck that affords you the pleasures of life.  But there is something that is life zapping about going into a job that sucks!   So if that’s the case for you it should be easy to change your outlook about a possible layoff and take that as an opportunity to re-create yourself in a new and more satisfying way.

Hypnosis – Help For the Citigroup Layoffs

The news recently that rocked the financial markets was about the massive layoffs scheduled by Citigroup that stated that 50,000 jobs would be eliminated. This is going to be a great hardship for many families. And one of the things they can consider to help them with this difficult situation was reported in the Wall Street Journal last week. The WSJ reported that hypnotists, using hypnosis for stress management, are helping clients affected by the current economy, market swings, and unemployment. They are doing this by using hypnosis to change attitudes. The attitude that we take firmly will enable us to take the necessary steps to focus on the tasks at hand without the worry that might freeze and prevent the very behaviors that are required in this special time.

Here’s how it works.

While in a trance state, we humans become more open to suggestion. We can eliminate uncomfortable responses to situations. We can view things in a new and more rewarding perspective. When we are able to either eliminate or manage stress we can take back control.

What the stress response does.

Stress is the response that is programed into us for our own protection. It is known as the fight or flight response. This is our instinctive response to danger. You know, the response that all living creatures have. Take for example the possum. When in danger, what does the possum do? It plays dead. That’s why the phrase playin’ possum came about. We humans are a little more advanced than the possum, but it appears not much. We have the ability to do a bunch of different things. Responses to danger that we take depends on the situation at hand. But our flight or fight response kicks in with either running or fighting. Or we can play dead. Freeze in our tracks, just like our friend the possum. So afraid to take action that we take no action at all, (or so we think). But that inaction is a choice and actually an action in response to danger none the less.

Why the fight or flight response ends up freezing us?

The fight or flight response has a physical component. Our bodies respond in a predictable way. Our muscles tense up in preparation for running or fighting. Our digestion slows down or stops, again in response to running or fighting, and our breathing becomes very shallow, again in order to help us better run or fight. Now if that muscle tightening that we experience becomes too intense, we actually don’t do anything, like that possum. Surely those of us that would’ve responded that way during prehistoric times would have been weeded out of the gene pool. But these days that stress response is not a response to such a dire attack. We experience stress from financial difficulties, relationship problems, everyday situations that are uncomfortable for us. It’s not life or death, but our bodies respond as if it is.
